Sponsor of this BTS Pay It Forward Event
I was so pleased to be asked to participate in this BTS Pay It Forward Event! You may be asking yourself…how does this work? What is the meaning of pay it forward? Pay it forward generally means that you have been the recipient of an unexpected gesture from someone you may or may not know. Or maybe you want to be the one that says “Let it begin with me”. Then when you see someone in need you help them out, basically “paying it forward”. Isn’t that a great concept? I’ve read where people have been blessed by someone paying for their gas, buying them a meal or groceries, or giving them something they need and can’t afford. Something to brighten the other person’s day and perhaps giving them the courage to continue on. Notice I said “need”, not “want”. There is a difference.
Enough babble….Campus Book Rentals provided 85 bloggers (I was fortunate to be one of them) with $25 to purchase and fill a backpack. That means our shopping skills were put to the test. How many good, quality products could we purchase for $25? Once we completed that part of our mission we were to donate the filled backpack to a child in need.
I started by purchasing a really nice girls backpack (pink & purple) that also had a lunch pack with it for $10.99. That left me $14.01 to purchase school supplies. I hit all the sales I could find. Notebook paper 50¢; pencils 25¢; ink pens $1; subject notebooks 50¢; erasers 25¢; markers $1, binders $1; scissors $1; crayons 50¢; and more. It is amazing how much you can buy with $14.01! (I was suppose to post a picture showing my great deals but I am out of state and my camera with the pictures is at home. When I return home next week I will add the picture to this post.)
Who did I donate to? I already work with school counselors and homeless liaisons in my area for a non-profit organization called It’s All About the Kids, an outreach ministry of Lady Lake Assembly of God in Florida. (Last weekend we donated 1,000 packages of underwear that we had collected to the homeless and needy children living in the Ocala Forest. That was an amazing experience!) Therefore I was easily able to connect with one of the school liaisons to help a needy child in my area.
